Ageing is not a disease, and this is not about stopping it. It is about staying well for as much of your life as possible, what researchers call healthspan as distinct from lifespan.
The approach
Much of what determines how well someone ages is established decades earlier: cardiovascular health, muscle mass, metabolic health, sleep quality and social connection. Preventive attention to those areas is unglamorous, and it is also where the strongest evidence sits.
A healthy-ageing consultation typically covers:
- Cardiovascular and metabolic risk: blood pressure, lipids, blood sugar, and what your family history suggests about your own risk
- Physical function: strength, balance and activity levels, which matter enormously for independence later in life
- Cognitive health: sleep, hearing, blood pressure control and mental stimulation are among the modifiable factors with reasonable evidence behind them
- Nutrition: adequate protein, fibre and micronutrients, adjusted for your age and activity
An honest word on claims
The longevity field attracts a great deal of marketing, some of it far ahead of the evidence. We will tell you plainly which recommendations rest on solid research, which are reasonable but unproven, and which we think are not worth your money. Anyone promising to reverse ageing is overstating what medicine can currently do.
Who this suits
People in mid-life who feel well but want to stay that way, and people who have watched a parent’s health decline and would like to understand their own risks earlier.
